Goofin' off
So I made this one doodle, then I decided to paint it up quick, then I decided to give it some additional elements, then an x-wing helmet, and then it's days later and I've done 20+ variations. Why is my brain wired for oddball serial projects?!
This is all in a single file; each element is on its own layer so they can be mix'n matched. 3 or 4 of the images above are just weird combinations of elements from different characters.
I know. My brain is weird.

Important Reminder
Note To Self: Sometimes all it takes to improve a lousy night is an hour or so sketching. Both from ref, all sketchbook pro. It's really easy for me to get wrapped up in projects, and going for a specific look to the exclusion of all else. This was a good reminder that I should be having fun, too.

practice.
Go-go-gadget practice. about an hour in, trying to remind myself (yet again) that I can actually make art. Eyes are horribly wonky, but I feel better about where the skin tones are headed. Hopefully will have an update soon-ish.

lightning 2/18/10 part 2
lightning 2/18/10

Okay, this took more than 1/2 an hour by a bit. Trying to incorporate more of a full range of tones, which has been a real struggle with these more painterly sketches. Blech.

Lightning Round!

So the last few weeks have really been devoted to deciphering the mysteries of human anatomy. With one caveat- I'm not trying to exactly copy the human body, I'm just trying to get to a point where I can draw (without reference) something that feels right. I know I draw enormously elongated torso's and stubby legs, and I'm okay with that.
So I've instituted the lightning round. 30 minutes tops, from reference, with the main point being to understand the anatomy of the body as I'm drawing it. I know I can copy an image, still have to learn how to reliably create my own.
